PAUL TSIKNAS

Customer Operations Manager

After a career spanning 31 years with telecommunications giant Telstra, Paul decided he needed a change. So when Nick Haros asked him to help improve the sales function in St George Foodservice, he jumped at the chance.

“I was thrilled to have the new challenge and really bring my experience from a previous life, which was in a big corporate, into something completely different, a family-run business,” Paul says.

It didn’t take long for Paul to become part of the St George family. For one thing, he loves food, and a huge part of St George is delivering food to businesses so that they can create wonderful experiences for their customers.

“We provide food,” he says, “and food brings people together in a loving way. So essentially, we’re bringing people together and that feels amazing.”

Since joining St George in 2018, Paul has focused on building and refining the sales team and processes, and the overall customer experience.

“Marketing is one of the new capabilities we’ve introduced, as well as brand building and using digital communications. It’s all about generating a one-team focus for our customers.”

The one-team focus is an essential part of St George. It really is a cohesive and supportive team environment, and Paul could see right away that the strong work ethic and teamwork were already part and parcel of the St George team. That’s why he has fostered a culture of autonomy and support to help the team do their jobs.

“I trust people’s experiences,” he says. “I’ve been here to coach and mentor and direct the team, but they’ve always been accountable to do their part and they are wonderful at it.”

Paul absolutely loves working at St George and the food industry, and wishes he’d joined it years ago. For Paul, it’s been about the dedication of the people at St George. Everyone, from the owners to the permanent staff and casual employees, displays a deep, unwavering commitment to improving the customer experience.

“It’s a very broad and varied team, who have strong technical skills, are great at ideas and creativity.”

He’s thrilled and energised for the future, knowing that they are on the right path and doing the right thing for customers as well as everyone who works at St George.
